Creating Your Perfect Ceremony
No matter the milestone, I’m dedicated to making your ceremony authentic, memorable, and full of love.
To make sure that planning a ceremony with me is a seamless and stress free experience, I have put together this step by step process for creating your perfect ceremony.
The Process
Step 1 - Get in Touch
Contact me for our initial chat.
The initial chat is mainly to make sure that I am available on the day of your ceremony and, if I am, to arrange our first face to face meeting.
Step 2 - Face to Face Meeting
Creating the perfect ceremony is only possible if all parties are comfortable with each other - you need to feel that I am the right fit for you and vice versa.
The initial meeting is obligation free and doesn't need to go for longer than 30 minutes - but can go for as long as you feel is needed to ensure that you can get all of the information you need to decide if you want to go ahead with me as your celebrant.
It is always best that we have a full discussion of your specific needs and wants for your ceremony during this meeting - this allows us to really ensure that we are a good match.
Don't stress - you don't need to give me your decision at this meeting. I will keep your ceremony date free for 2 weeks after this meeting so that you have enough time to decide if I am the right fit for your special day. Of course, this doesn't mean you can't book after the 2 weeks if the date is still free!
Step 3 - Make your Booking
Once you have decided that I am the right celebrant for your big day, we will go through the inclusions that you want for your ceremony and I will prepare a Service Agreement.
You will need to sign and return this agreement along with your deposit to formalise your booking.
Changes can be made to the agreement within reason, however these changes may attract an additional cost. A new agreement will be prepared and require signing before any requested changes are able to take effect.
Step 4 - Meeting 2
For weddings:
This meeting is where you will complete the Notice of Intended Marriage.
Both of you have to attend this meeting and you will each need the following documents:
-
Original Birth Certificate or Passport;
-
Driver's License or other valid Photo ID;
-
If either of you have previously been married:
-
Original Divorce Certificate; or
-
Death Certificate (if applicable)
-
If any of the above documents are not in English, you will need to provide NAATI certified translations.
I will also provide you with the Happily Ever...Before and After brochure which outlines the obligations and consequences of marriage and also provides information regarding marriage education and counselling.
For all ceremonies, including weddings:
This meeting is where we will go through questionnaires that you will need to complete to provide the information needed for your ceremony creation - these questionnaires have required and optional questions for you to answer (depending on how personalised you would like your ceremony and how much of your individual story you want me to include).
We can go through the questionnaires together and you can choose whether to fill them in with me during the meeting or fill them in after you leave, in your own time.
We will also discuss any special rituals or other inclusions to your ceremony and go through the basic structure of a ceremony so that you can decide if you want any specific changes.
Step 5 - Ceremony Created
After the questionnaire/s are completed, your ceremony will be created based on your responses and our discussions.
This will include creation of your vows if you have asked me to prepare these on your behalf. It will also include full scripting of any rituals, poems and/or readings if you have chosen to include these in your ceremony.
The initial draft of your ceremony will be sent to you for your review and so that you can make any requests for changes. If you would prefer to meet in person to go through this initial draft, that can also be arranged (all packages include unlimited meetings and contact with me in the lead up to your big day).
If you have chosen to write your own vows or to source your own readings/poems, I will ask for you initial draft to be provided at this stage, as well as the name and length of any songs that you want included in your ceremony so that they can be factored into the outline - this will ensure that you can have a true representation of the ceremony length.
This step will go for as long as it takes until you are completely satisfied with your ceremony - it is your day, after all!
Step 6 - Final vows due
If you are writing your own vows, readings or any other element of your ceremony, these will need to be finalised and given to me at least 2 weeks before the ceremony date. I will then place these into your ceremony script and also create cue cards for use on the day.
This also allows for the commemorative ceremony print out that I provide at the end of all ceremonies to include all of the special moments.
Your vows can remain a secret from your partner until the day of the wedding so that they are hearing them for the first time - placekeeper vows will be available for use during any rehearsals.
Step 7 - Rehearsal
Having a rehearsal/run through of the full ceremony can help put your mind at ease in the lead up to your big day. This can be especially useful when you have included family and friends in the ceremony (either as part of a ritual or by giving them something to read etc).
Rehearsals are included as part of all ceremony packages and can be done at the ceremony location (where available) or any other location of your choosing. This will allow you to be fully prepared for the ceremony and give you a final opportunity to make any minor adjustments to the ceremony (ie songs, timing of inclusions, order of certain elements).
It is recommended that you have your rehearsal at least 1-2 weeks before the event to allow time for any minor changes to be made.
Your final payment will be due by this date, preferably before the rehearsal starts.
Step 8 - Ceremony Day
On the day of your ceremony, I will be at the location at least 90 minutes before the scheduled start time to make sure that there is plenty of time for me to set up my PA system and the ceremony area.
I will liaise with venue coordinators, photographers, musicians, florists, caterers, and guests, to ensure that your ceremony runs seamlessly.
Step 9 - Registration of Marriage
For weddings only:
After performing your ceremony, I will immediately register your marriage via the online portal available to me through Births, Deaths and Marriages.
Once I have submitted your marriage registration, I will send you an email confirming this and outlining the steps that you need to take to apply for your official marriage certificate.
This will be needed before you are able to change your name, if you so choose. This is not done by me and the cost is not included within my fee as it will need to be paid directly to Births, Deaths and Marriages.
